So it?s Monday morning and time to prepare for the week ahead, but I can?t help reflecting on the weekend and a few instances of exceptional customer service that I experienced. It was not a perfect weekend by any means, but there were a few people who made it a little better.
On my drive home from work Friday night, a fellow driver was kind enough to alert me to the fact that I was driving on a flat tire. I made it home without any major catastrophes and parked outside of my house. Since changing tires is something I prefer to leave to the experts, I called AAA. My call was immediately answered by a customer service rep who asked if I was in a safe place. I stressed to him that I was not in any kind of distress; it was just a flat tire and I was already home, just needed some assistance changing a tire.
Two minutes after hanging up the phone, I received a text message from AAA alerting me to the fact that a tow truck was in route and twenty minutes after that, it was in front of my house. Justin, the AAA service rep, was friendly and courteous and quickly got to work changing out my tire. In a few minutes, my car had 4 reliable tires and Justin was on his way. Later on, I emailed AAA to commend them on hiring great people and responding so quickly to my call.
My second great customer experience happened on Sunday. I went to Fells Point in Baltimore, MD for the Second Sunday Flea Market. From April to October, there is a flea market held in Fells Point the second Sunday of every month, it is sponsored by The Fells Point Preservation Society and it?s a wonderful way to spend a few hours, especially if the weather is good! If you go, I would recommend having brunch down there first; one of my favorite places is Koopers Tavern, great breakfast and bottomless mimosas
Anyway, I digress.
I was wandering around the flea market and came across a pair of vintage barstools that matched my kitchen perfectly and were priced to sell; both for $20! Larry, the barstool vendor, saw me admiring them and encouraged me to take advantage of the deal. I was tempted, but hesitant; since I was not sure they were the correct height for my kitchen counter. ?Tell you what? he said. ?Take them home and try them out. If they aren?t what you?re looking for, bring them back next month and I?ll give you your money back?. I could not believe his offer, but he assured me that it was no problem and that he wanted to make sure I was happy with my purchase.
It turns out that they are the perfect height and look great in my kitchen, so I won?t be taking them back, but knowing I had that option made me feel better about taking the risk. I think that?s what good customer service is all about, giving your customer confidence in you and your purchase so they don?t worry about being stuck with something they don?t want or being stranded for an indefinite period of time. Customer service is a crucial part of all of our jobs at Teltek and a job well done is easily recognized and appreciated. Do you have a great customer service experience? If so, please let us know!
